WHITING - Whiting artist Chris Diersen positions his 5-foot-tall flame
statue at Whiting Commons Park at Indianapolis Boulevard and Clark Street
in Whiting on Thursday. The statue is a flame symbolizing Whiting's
refinery fire and is made from limestone from Bedford. Diersen and
city workers used a crane to position the statue. It started as a
2,500-pound piece and was reduced to 1,600 pounds upon completion.
